With all the attention surrounding stars such as LeBron James and Dwayne Wade, a certain guy who happens to be named Chris has gone unnoticed for too long. No, it isn’t Chris Bosh. The unsung hero is named Chris Andersen A.K.A. “The Birdman”! People will give him a shout every now and then or one might give props to Andersen for a great play but he really is not getting enough credit for his presence in the playoffs. When he comes out to play, this man comes to get dirty and physical! Miami was questionable in terms of rebounding and interior defense during the beginning of the regular season but thanks to a late January acquisition of Andersen, a lot of those inside voids have been filled.
Birdman’s efforts in the playoffs are giving Miami an extra edge in many aspects of the game. During the 2013 Playoffs, Andersen is averaging 7.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in only 14.8 minutes per game. He is not out there for very long but when Andersen steps in the game, he does some major damage! Noted primarily for his defense, Andersen is shockingly putting up some points for his team in the playoffs. He is 35-41 from the field in the postseason, which equates to an 85.4 % field goal percentage. Maybe he is not stepping out and hitting jumpers but catching alley-oops and scoring garbage buckets is still two points last time I checked! Andersen is a big reason that Miami holds a 2-1 lead over Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals and expect him to continue his stellar play. In this current series, Andersen is averaging 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2 blocks, while cashing in at a scorching 100% from the field(13-13). How can anyone not like this guy? Awesome tattoos, a funky mohawk haircut and he can’t miss a shot right now. Birdman is without a doubt a hot topic in South Beach.
