Whether or not people are avid boxing fans. they have probably heard of the legendary Floyd “Money” Mayweather. You know, that cocky, pompous boxer that holds a 44-0-0 record with 26 knockouts. Somebody that many people are not informed on is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Alvarez is 42-0 with one draw in 43 bouts. Both of these ring giants are technically sound and impressive. Their opponents have all tried and failed to take them down. So, in order to determine who is the undisputed champion of the boxing world, Alvarez and Mayweather will stand toe to toe in the ring against one another on September 14, 2013.
These fighters are different in a couple of ways. Age is one category in which they differ. Mayweather is now 36 years old. On the contrary, Alvarez is only 22 years old, despite having 42 wins under his belt already. Another way in which they are not the same is their fighting styles. Mayweather is a technical maestro that toys with his opponents and typically cruises to victory by displaying his speed and defensive prowess over the duration of the full 12 rounds. However, Alvarez is a hard-hitting warrior that gets rid of most of his opponents by way of knockout, hence his 31 knockouts in 43 fights. Mayweather is not far behind with 26 knockouts but his heavy-handedness has sort of laid off as his career winds down.
It doesn’t really matter if Mayweather can knock Alvarez out. That’s not why boxing fans should be excited about this fight. Honestly, many people want to know if Alvarez can put Mayweather flat on his back! It’s as simple as that because it might be just as hard to outbox Mayweather for 12 rounds as it is for a Honda Accord to beat a Lamborghini in a race. Not happening because Mayweather will wear his opponent down and then unleash his skills out of nowhere! Mayweather is 36 but do not get confused on who is arguably the greatest boxer of all time and possibly the best athlete in the world right now. His numbers speak for him. Alvarez is a heck of champion and will undoubtedly be prepared for this showdown but Mayweather has never backed down and will not back down from a challenge. Many believe that “Canelo” Alvarez is Mayweather’s biggest threat ever. We will all find out who the best is when both juggernauts square off at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14th.
