There was much excitement surrounding the championship match of the 2013 Confederation Cup between Spain and Brazil. Both teams are without a doubt two of the most celebrated powerhouses within the soccer world. Seeing that Spain is the reigning World Cup champion and has dominated in just about every international match in the last few years, they were the favorite to win. However, Brazil won the last two Confederation Cups and looked to bring the third trophy in a row back home. The lights were on and stars were ready to fly around on the pitch.

It didn’t take long for someone to put a number on the board in the match. Fred was the beneficiary of a beautiful cross sent by Hulk. Amazingly, Fred fell down but was able to kick the ball pass the goalie and into the back of the net while laying on the ground to give Brazil a 1-0 in just the second minute of the match.  Thanks to a magnificent left-footed strike by 21-year-old phenom and future Barcelona star Neymar, Brazil was able to sneak a second goal in before halftime in the forty-fourth minute, making the score 2-0. The second half started up and Fred was hungry for another goal. In the forty-seventh minute, Fred received another terrific pass and was able to slice the ball into the goal for his second goal of the match and third for Brazil.

Spain tried to catch up to Brazil but the 3-0 deficit that stood was quite formidable. Spain even had a penalty kick opportunity but could not capitalize.  Spanish defender Sergio Ramos completely missed the goal on the penalty kick and from then on, it was evident that this was not Spain’s day. Brazil went on to win the Confederations Cup for the third time in a row. The match had an electric atmosphere and they are probably going to be partying in Brazil extremely hard because of the terrific Brazilian squad!
