A number of freshmen have taken the college basketball world by storm with their arrivals and their abilities to impact the game at such early points in the year.
Here is a list of the top 5 freshmen to grace the hardwood in the 2013-2014 season:
1. Jabari Parker( #1 SF, Duke)- At 6’8″ and 235 pounds, this Chicago native has drawn comparisons to the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant. He can score easily and is a willing passer. He’s put up 22.8 PPG, 8.8 RPG and 2.5 APG in his first four games.
2. Julius Randle(#30 PF, Kentucky)- Randle is proof that those boys in Texas are fed really good! The 6’9″, 250-pounder out of Dallas is a monster in the post. Double-teaming, even triple-teaming doesn’t phase this youngster. Randle is simply an animal! He possesses a deadly spin move on the block that shows he is not only a bruiser but that he also has some finesse to his game. His numbers are at 20.5 PPG and an outstanding 14.3 RPG.
3. Andrew Wiggins( #22 SG, Kansas)- Wiggins is probably the most athletic freshmen in the country. This 6’8″, 200 pound guard hails all the way from Ontario, Canada. His first step is something serious and the kid’s jumping ability is through the roof. He is averaging 19.0 PPG and 5.5 RPG. As Dick Vitale would say, “he’s the elevator man!”.

4. Aaron Gordon(#11 F, Arizona)- This athletic San Jose, California product reminds many people of Blake Griffin because of the way he finishes at the rim. He is 6’9″ and 225 pounds. Gordon is a traditional power forward but he plays a bit of small forward for Arizona as well. 13.3 PPG and 9.5 RPG are his numbers so far. The numbers are not as gaudy as Parker, Randle or Wiggins but he is still proving that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Noah Vonleh(#1 PF, Indiana)- The young gun from Haverhill, Massachusetts is the forgotten guy of this list. In other words, he is a diamond in the rough that hasn’t gotten the attention that he deserves. Pretty soon, his name is going to be in headlines though! Vonleh is a formidable force standing at 6’10” and 240 pounds. He is another one of those guys who is capable of getting a double-double every game. His 14.8 PPG and 12.5 RPG averages are pretty impressive to say the least and Indiana coach Tom Crean must be salivating over the fact that he gets to coach a force such as Vonleh.

Fasten your seatbelts college basketball fans because the youngsters on this list are not the only freshmen that are going to blow your mind.
